The prefecture Ilia depends in the region of Western Greece. It occupies the north-western department of Peloponnese and it borders north-easternly on the prefecture Achaia, easternly and southly-eastern on the prefecture Arkadia, southernly on the prefecture Messinia, while westwards is wetted from Ionian Sea. Capital is the city of Pirgos, second in population city is Amaliada. Exists also important towns and villages. In distance of 19 km of Pirgos, in a valley between the Kronio hill, the river Alfios and the tributary of Kladeo is Easternly stretched out, one of the more important archaeological spaces of Greece, Ancient Olympia, with appreciated mean of visitors daily almost the 800 individuals, in 1998.
